Theseus and Antiope married and had a son named Hippolytus. The Amazons later attack Athens but was defeated. Antiope had fought by Theseus’ side. In the final phase of the battle, Antiope was killed. (Some say Hippolyte was Theseus’ wife.) According to the event above, the Amazons invaded Athens to punish and kill Antiope for betraying them. Theseus path carried him across the Isthmus of Corinth to Athens.
